What’s happening in Year 10

March 31, 2023

It has been a positive start to the year for Year 10. The students have settled in very well to the new school year and have demonstrated a willingness to apply themselves to their studies with diligence.

One of the aims for Year 10 this year was to set a positive example for the lower grades to follow. That can be achieved via their conduct around the College in the corridors, hallways, canteen and out on the ovals. Another way this can be done is through our participation in whole school events such as the Opening College Mass, Ash Wednesday Liturgy, fire drills and assemblies. It was very pleasing when our new Principal, Ms Darley, commented on how impressed she has been with Year 10 and the way they have set a positive example for the rest of the school to follow. This is reflective of the attitude and behaviour of all Year 10 students.

Year 10 have also been very active with their studies and have been involved in many different events around the College, such as the Year 10 Sport and Recreation camp that was held last week. The feedback that the group received from the instructors who led the activities, such as surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding, was glowing and again is indicative of the culture of the Year 10 cohort as a whole.

Later this year there are some big events coming up for Year 10 including the Year 10 Reflection Day, Year 10 Camp, Mental Health Education ACT and careers pathways and lessons. The other aim for Year 10 this year is to prepare them for the senior years of their education and for life after school. Therefore, we will be embarking on a series of lessons aimed at developing their career pathways and subject choices for Year 11 and 12.

As we approach Easter, the year is quickly flying past and we are nearly a quarter of the way through Year 10. The rest of the year will no doubt pass by very quickly with so much happening. We all have on eye on the culmination of their Year 10 Certificates at the end of this year. However, the journey of a thousand steps starts with one and we need to be mindful and present to what is in front of us right now.
