Recently a number of students represented the College in the Northside Secondary Swimming Championships. Tahlia A, Amber L and Lincoln N represented SFX at the ACT Swimming Championship and all swam very well. Particular congratulations, to Amber L and Lincoln N who placed in a number of different events. All students represented the College with distinction and swam to the best of their ability. A special thank you to Mr Nolan who acted as an official and to Grace C of Year 12 who assisted him. A big congratulations to Clara D of Year 7 who progressed to the 12/U ACT Championships. Clara swam in the 50m Butterfly and recorded a personal best.
Netball
In early May, our senior mixed netball sides competed at the Netball ACT College Gala Day. The College was well represented by three sides. All players displayed a healthy competitive streak and this saw some very positive results against some very tough opposition. Our best finish was a very respectable 5th place. Well done to all students who represented the College admirably.
Softball
Jack F and Jack O in Year 12 and Bronte N from Year 9 recently represented ACT in the School Sport Australian Softball Championships in Werribee VIC in May. The students played two games a day over the weeklong Championship. All played extremely well.
An extra mention to Jack Friend and Jack O’Donnell being selected as vice captains of the U/18s boys team.
Leaguetag
Last week we had two sides participate in the girls Leaguetag event at Phillip. Our 7/8 girls tried hard all day against some quality opposition. The 9/10 girls performed well in the group stages and progressed to the semi finals which they unfortunately lost. A big thanks to Miss Vandenbroucke and Mrs Reppion-Smith for taking the time to coach the sides.
AFL
Our senior boys AFL team have just completed a successful season. They won the Northside carnival and progressed to the ACT final. They came up against a very impressive and well drilled Erindale College and despite their best efforts the boys fell just short. A big thank you to Mr Storman who led the team with distinction.
Volleyball
Last week, three girls’ volleyball sides participated in Secondary North Girls Volleyball Gala day. Our 7/8 played in three games and were competitive in all three games and that culminated in a victory in the last game. Our 9/10 sides also played in three highly competitive games. Both sides played with great enthusiasm, support and team spirit. The SFX Blue side lost to eventual champions Daramala College by only two points. A big thank you to Miss Morgan and Miss Seeney for coaching the sides and the seniors who assisted them.
Football
Our College Girls Football side also competed in a Gala Day under the leadership of Miss Seeney. They played in three games and were extremely competitive in all of them. They eventually lost to Erindale Sports College in a tight match. Well done to the girls and thank you to Miss Seeney for taking the girls to the gala day.
Baseball
Finally, Justin B in Year 8 finishes up in Adelaide where he has been representing the ACT in Baseball. Congratulations on to Justin on his achievement and hope the team went well.
