Resource Centre – Read if you dare!

November 1, 2024

We’ve had the opportunity to do a few interesting displays this term. Take a look at your bookshelves, and you might be surprised how many books have been banned at one time or another. . Examples include The Hunger GamesLord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and more. The theme for Banned Books Week 2024 was “Freed Between the Lines,” an observance of the freedom we find in the pages of books and the need to defend that.

We had a little fun this week with our “Boo!(ks)” display and thought it a perfect time to delve into the spooky areas of our library collection and embrace the magic of literature.

Our Manga Club and Reading Café have been creating displays, manga drawing, socialising and having vibrant discussions about life and books. Planning for next year has already started.

Our Resource Centre staff are enthusiastic, well-read and thrive on recommending books to students. Our library definitely has something for everyone. To support students in their reading journeys, holiday borrowing is available, and our Wheelers eBooks/Audiobook platform is accessible through Canvas.

Lastly, Homework Heroes is a service run from Mon-Thurs every week between 3-4pm where students can come along to the Kingsford Smith room to receive support with any school related task.

Happy Reading SFX
