Year 7 Takes on SFX!

March 12, 2025

The start of the school year has been a whirlwind of excitement and activity for our Year 7 students, who have embraced their new high school journey with positivity and a strong sense of community. Already, they’ve participated in a range of College events, including whole school and house assemblies, the Opening Mass, liturgies, and the always-anticipated Swimming Carnival/Community Day.

As we settle into Term 1, preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Year 7 Camp. Students are buzzing with excitement, eager for the adventure and bonding opportunities that await. Keep an eye on Compass and Canvas for more information as the camp draws closer.

Many students have shared how welcoming and supportive the SFX community has been. Mia Bettell expressed her appreciation for the teachers, saying they’ve been “really inclusive, making sure we get to class on time and supporting us — definitely not treating us like babies!” This sense of care has made the transition smoother for many, including Daniel Makuwira, who shared, “I have loved my teachers, they are taking care of us and help us. I have loved making new friends.”

Navigating a new school can be daunting, but MJ Jbeili found the transition to be “pretty easy,” mentioning that “everyone is pretty nice, something that I have appreciated is that SFX is inclusive and appreciates my faith.” The welcoming atmosphere has helped students like Taylor Henning enjoy meeting new people, saying, “Something that I have enjoyed since starting SFX is making new friends and meeting new teachers.”

Beyond the classroom, students are also relishing the variety of activities and opportunities at SFX. Nate Sawyer highlighted his excitement for elective classes, noting, “Some of my favourite things so far are the elective classes because in Food Tech you get to make stuff, and I am looking forward to Woodwork next semester.” He also mentioned how much he enjoys the school oval, where students can play sports and hang out with friends.

We feel incredibly fortunate to welcome such a dynamic and community-oriented group to Year 7 and are excited to see all they will accomplish throughout the year. With their enthusiasm and willingness to get involved, it’s clear they’re already making their mark on the SFX community. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
