Notes on Student Wellbeing

Welcome to Term 3.  We’ve had a busy and productive start to the term.  Congratulations to the Senior Leadership Team and Ms McNeill for organising a very successful Trivia Night last Thursday night.  The night raised over $1700 which will be donated to Pegasus through our scholarship of a Pegasus student.  Jeans for Genes Day last Friday raised over $1000, which is also a great effort from students and staff.

I’ve received a couple of disturbing calls from locals recently.  One relates to locals in the Florey and Latham areas who have families drive into their streets and park cars on house frontages close to the underpasses, waiting for students to walk via underpasses for collection. I’d ask all our families to be considerate of our local residents, many of whom have lived here for many years and contended with student rubbish, school bells, and occasionally parents refusing to move vehicles.  

Another call I received last week relates to senior students seen driving and parking in a Florey street, then letting a student out of the car boot.  The re

sident said others in the car realised they were being watched and stood in front of the car’s number plate to prevent identification.  Luckily, their uniforms gave them away.  Parents of all seniors (and in fact all students with written permission to travel with seniors) should have a conversation about safety and sensible choice

s regarding the use of and travel in student vehicles.

Lastly, we received the best kind of call just before the holidays from a shopper in the Mall. She was juggling a pram and a baby and groceries.  A group of senior girls stopped to help the woman and walked her to her car to make sure she was OK. We receive these kinds of calls more often than you might realise, and many of the calls relate to the fabulous behaviour of our students on excursions.  Here’s to many more of these positive calls.
