Year 7 Update

March 11, 2020

It has been another busy couple of weeks for Year 7. The term is flying past and we are already at the halfway mark. A number of big events have occurred in Year 7 beginning with the immunisation day on 17 February. All Year 7 students were given their HPV-1 injection and there were a few nervous faces. However, with a little encouragement from their friends and some gentle reassurance from the nurses, we soldiered on through it bravely and got it done.

We also had the Year 7 Parent Information Evening on 24 February and it was great to see so many parents who attended the night. I feel that the opportunity to meet with teachers, make some introductions and put some faces to names is invaluable. A big thank you must go to Mrs Patterson, Middle School HUMs Coordinator, and Mr Beattie, Middle School STEM Coordinator, for all of their time and effort in preparing for the night. A big thank you must also go to all of the Pastoral Leaders and all of the HUMs and STEMs teachers who gave up their time to meet with parents and answer questions about pastoral care and the curriculum.

Personal Development and Christian Values

On 25 February we had our first PDCV (Personal Development and Christian Values) lesson in pastoral groups. The theme for this lesson was starting secondary school and looking at ways that Year 7 students can organise their time effectively to manage the increased workload. PDCV lessons will run most Tuesdays in period 1 and each lesson will have a particular focus that is relevant to Year 7 students. At our Year 7 assemblies, I handed out two canteen vouchers for Year 7 students who had been acknowledged by their teachers for displaying a commitment to the values of SFX through their behaviour, attitude and application in class. Congratulations must go to Darcy in 7I2 and Sofia in 7K2 for their awards. Well done and keep up the good work.

Year 7 Camp

Preparations for Year 7 Camp are underway with permission notes dues on Friday 7 March. I have been pleased with the progress that all Year 7 students have made thus far and encourage them to maintain this for the remainder of Term One.

Year 7 Coordinator
