Year 7 Artists

March 12, 2020

The Year 7 students have got off to a cracking start in Visual Art Class this year. We have been looking at the Elements of Art and how artists use them to create their artworks. So far we have looked at Shape, Line and Colour, and how the artists Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso have used them to develop their own artistic style.

The first practical activity required the students to investigate Matisse’s ‘Cut-outs’ and then use his technique of ‘drawing with scissors’ to create their own artwork that depicted a figure in motion using a series of shapes. The students were able to come up with a diverse, imaginative range of interpretations of this theme.

Below are some examples – please note: No pencils were used in the creation of these works, only scissors, paper and glue!
