First steps to work experience

Unsure about what you want to do after school? Have lots of ideas of what you want to do after school?

Participating in work experience will give you insight into the industry, role, employer and workplace as part of a greater career planning program.

Step 1.

Work experience is easy to arrange by emailing careers@sfx.act.edu.au.

List some of the times that you are available to meet (recess or lunches that you have free).

Think about the sorts of things you enjoy doing either at school or outside of school and be ready to discuss these with the Careers Advisor during your appointment.

Hotstart pre-employment training 2020

‘Hotstart’ is an innovative hospitality pre-employment and WEX/ASBA placement program open to all ACT students in years 10, 11 and 12.  The program has been developed by Access Recognised Training (ACCESS) in partnership with the ACT Government and a collection of major ACT hospitality employers, ACT schools and OzHarvest.

The first component of the ‘Hotstart’ program involves students undertaking one week of face-to-face employment training delivered at one of our partner schools.  The pre-employment training program will give students a ‘taste’ of front and back of house hospitality activities and prepare them for the realities of the workplace.

On the final day of the pre-employment training, students will be directly involved in an OzHarvest ‘Cook for a Cause’ event.  This will involve students working with chefs from our partner organisations to prepare rescued food for delivery to the OzHarvest network. Registration is via the link:  https://accessrt.edu.au/landing-form/

Please register your child’s interest as places are filling quickly and this opportunity will not be available after June this year.

USI numbers for VET students

Thank you to all families who have supplied USI numbers for their child’s VET course.  For those who haven’t yet done this, please register here.   It takes a few minutes and you only need your family Medicare card to register.  Once you have this number please email a copy to careers@sfx.act.edu.au for our records.

Any family who would like assistance please email careers@sfx.act.edu.au – the Careers and VET office staff will happily assist students in this process.

USI numbers need to be received by the College by the end of Week 6 Friday 13 March.
