Corroboree Culture Day
October 3, 2024On Friday, 20 September, our First Nations students and families participated in the Corroboree Culture Day. After Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, students enjoyed activities such as dance, sport, spear throwing, weaving, art and craft. We met representatives from the Canberra Chill, Canberra Raiders and Canberra Brumbies, and there were a number of stalls that provided Culturally sensitive information about health, education and wellbeing. It was a day of yarning, culture, fun and connection to community and Country. We were very lucky to have some of our beautiful Year 10 students who volunteered to help out for the day. They did a superb job of assisting organisers so the the day ran smoothly and they were incredible allies to our First Nations community. It was so heartwarming for several people to approach the accompanying teachers to compliment them on how wonderful they were on the day. A very big thank you to those students who are; Poppy Benton, Darcy Brown, Isabella Costanzo, Kara Cox, Paige Davis, Natalia Gill, Olivia Heliniak, Josie Hose, Lucy Lawton, Tayla McGeechan, Darcy McKnight, Sarah Rabbets, Arabelle Stevenson, Mikayla Tokarski.
They were outstanding ambassadors for the College and the organisers, the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee are very grateful for the support they provided.
It was a wonderful day and we are so glad our students enjoyed it. It’s on again in 19 September 2025!
