Year 12 students compete in RACI Titration Stakes at ANU
May 28, 2021On Tuesday 11 May, SFX Science Teachers Kathryn Black, Colleen Marriot and Karen Humphrey accompanied two teams of Year 12 students to the Science Teaching Laboratories at the ANU. The teams competed in the ‘2021 Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) Titration Stakes Chemistry Competition’. This competition is sponsored by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and is organised by the Department of Chemistry. The competition involves working in teams to determine the concentration of unknown solutions using titration analysis. SFX students performed well among 23 other teams from 12 different Colleges!
Nelly Phasi, Jemima Lum and Andrea Sebastian were placed in the top ten teams and will now progress to a more difficult titration in the National Finals later in the year. Dhrishya Raj, Alissa Jobson and Alex Burns just missed out on a place in the finals. The students showed great dedication by practicing for the competition in their own time and were wonderful representatives for SFX! Congratulations to all the students who participated.
A big thank you to Karla Harris, our Laboratory Technician for preparing solutions and equipment for the practice sessions. The teams couldn’t have done it without your support!
