Teaching & Learning at SFX

Three levels at the College

At SFX there has been a deliberate and purposeful effort to engage students in the learning process. This is particularly evident in the focus on the three levels of school:

St Francis Xavier College is a Christian School in the Catholic tradition committed to providing excellence in education. We aim to provide a nurturing, supportive and enriching environment in which students have the opportunity to develop spiritually, academically, socially, physically and emotionally into confident and capable and engaged members of the broader community.

The College curriculum is in keeping with contemporary educational theory and trends. The focus addresses current and future needs of all its students through best practice in teaching and learning in a supportive and stimulating environment. The College agreed teaching and learning practices are continually developing through ongoing professional learning and dialogue.

Student engagement

Students are expected to

  • Engage fully in the range of learning activities available to them. This includes classroom activities, homework and assessment. Students are encouraged to attend camps, excursions and events related to educational programs.
  • Participation in College events such as carnivals and community days is encouraged.
  • Participate positively and respectfully in Religious Education and Religious Studies classes, masses, liturgies, retreats and reflection days.
  • They are taught to participate in religious education and religious studies which includes lessons, masses, liturgies, retreats, and reflection days in a good and respectful manner.

The College provides students with numerous chances to pursue their interests and abilities in the fields of learning, athletics, the arts, and religion, both as required coursework and through extracurricular activities. All-year groups of students are given the chance to grow as leaders and contribute back to their communities. When they are planned as a part of a year group or other educational programme, all students are expected to participate in these activities.
