The Performing Arts Department at St Francis Xavier College offers opportunities to students from Years 7–12 for the study of Music, Drama, Dance and Live Production. Students perform, create and learn about the history and theory of each key learning area. They study electronic music and an instrument of their choice, learn about acting for stage and screen in our theatre and TV studio and dance in different styles.
The well-equipped Performing Arts complex comprises a theatre with a comprehensive sound and lighting booth, sound studio and multipurpose spaces that give students the opportunity to perform in an authentic environment and become proficient in the use of technical equipment.
As performance is an integral part of our curriculum, College events are enriched by the talent and involvement of our Performing Arts students. The School Musical, Variety Nights, Dance Ensemble performances, Battle of the Bands, Dance Festival and Drama Nights also showcase the wonderful array of skills developed by our students.
Private music tuition is available on most instruments for those students who wish to further develop their skills.
Various Band Programs are available to cater for students of all musical levels. Students in these programs rehearse twice a week.
Our curriculum is delivered in semester units, allowing for flexibility and individual student’s needs. Classes usually work on a project that is then performed for an audience at the end of the semester.
All students in Years 7 and 8 study Performing Arts for one semester.
In Years 9 and 10, Music, Dance and Drama (which includes acting on screen) are available for either a one or two year program.
Our Senior College offers a wide range of units in Dance, Drama and Music.
