College Girls League Tag
On March 8th Catherine Morgan took an enthusiastic group of Senior Girls to the ACT League Tag competition. Despite many opportunities the team played out a nil-all draw against Gungahlin College in their first game. The team played back-to-back games and came up next against Erindale College. The girls worked well together and scrambled hard in defence but unfortunately let in a try in the final minute and went down 4-0.
The girls then started to find some great combinations, with Maggie Gorham directing play and she was well supported by Marley Thomas, Adol Abuoi and Bailee Crowe. They went on to defeat Canberra College 17-0 in their final pool game and then played McKillop College in the semi-final. SFX were convincing winners, running away with the match 12-0. The girls then played the plate final against Erindale College and came away winners with the final score12-0. Maggie Gorham had a strong performance and won the MVP for the final. Congratulations on a wonderful performance and a fabulous day out.
9/10 Girls AFL
Great day had by all, undefeated all day. The students were amazing and with no subs they just kept getting better and better. Thanks to Connor Schroder and Jack Hynes for coaching!
7/8 Girls Basketball
Despite losing two matches the girls played really well. They held their heads high and played with great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day.
9/10 Girls Basketball
The 9/10 Girls Basketball team worked effectively as a team all day. They finished the day as overall champions and will progress to the ACT championships. Well done girls! A huge thank you to Brandon Irvine who coached the team!
7/8 Girls AFL
The Girls showed great sportsmanship. They won all their games in their pool, made it to the Grand Final and won 94-0 over Stromlo High. Well done to all the girls and a big thank you to Sam Rubino for coaching and her assistance throughout the day!
7/8 Boys Basketball
The boys worked hard throughout the day but came up against some stiff competition. Jye’s hustle in defence was great. Jermaine and Garin were strong in the rebounds and Ekwueme was strong at the point. Geordan had some nice finishes. Well done to all the boys involved.
9/10 Boys Basketball
Due to a rich supply of basketballers, SFX sent two 9/10 Boys Basketball teams out to the Northside competition. SFX 1 was made up prominently of Year 10 students and SFX 2 was made up of only Year 9 students. Both teams played admirably throughout the day and both went undefeated through the rounds. SFX 2 showed incredible team work and precision passing. Sharp shooter Ralph Quizon led the scorers. Cooper Loughead and Alex Monaghan displaying tough defence shutting down opponents at will. SFX 1 played tough defence and smothered the opposition at every opportunity, which game them numerous opportunities to get easy points on the offensive end. Max Monaghan and Brandon Putt were relentless on the offensive boards and the opposition couldn’t handle their physical toughness. Unfortunately, SFX 2 missed the chance to play in the Finals despite being undefeated. SFX 1 will get the opportunity to defend last year’s title in the Finals day in Term 2.
