Year 7 STEM – exploring waterways
May 28, 2021Our Year 7 STEM students recently started an integrated STEM investigation exploring concepts of filtration, separation, engineering and design.
The ‘Safe to Drink’ task will allow students to explore aspects of our local waterways, including:
- what’s in our waterways,
- how First Nations people found, searched for and kept water ways, and
- how to find water that is safe to drink.
The task will culminate in students engineering ways to use home available resources to filter water – interesting stuff!
To prepare for this STEM inquiry, students used microscopes to discover the microscopic algae and insects that live in our turtle pond. The students were excited (and a little disgusted) by their discoveries but were very interested to learn how to ensure the water they drink is safe from the creepy crawlies that live in our water ways!
