Book Week 2024
August 23, 2024In Week 5 the Resource Centre staff organised a variety of activities to celebrate the Book Week, with the theme “Reading is Magic.” Book of the Year Winners for 2024 can be found on the Children’s Book Council website.
We had pastoral quizzes throughout the week and the celebrations were supported by a mesmerising group of musicians who provided energetic and engaging musical reminders about the supreme importance of reading books. A great and heartfelt thanks to all musicians, teachers, Production Crew members and all supporters for making this event happen so smoothly.
On Friday 23 August, we had our optional dress-up day and were thrilled to see staff and students getting into the spirit of the week with some great costumes. We also had a photobooth, games, and morning tea to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Many students entered our creative response competition, where all students were invited to consider “What makes reading magical? Congratulations to our student winners, Tahlia Rose, Matilda Menzel, Jessica Candy and Hudson Marlor, along with our staff winner Ryan d’Argeavel.
The Resource Centre also celebrated Australian School Libraries Day on 21 August 2024, with the theme “School Libraries Build Brighter Futures.” The day celebrates school libraries as places of learning, collaboration, expression, wellbeing, creativity and crucially, as a place where a love of reading is fostered and flourishes.
The great musical prowess of the Guitar Ensemble, Junior Band, Brass Band, Percussion Ensemble and String Ensemble added to the excellence in our musical offering made for our wonderful books. These ensembles are open for all students to join, and many of these students will now be working towards their performances for Floriade on the 18th of September.
We hope everyone enjoyed Book Week, as much as our hardworking staff. Happy Reading!
