Creativity with every photo
March 9, 2023Life as a photographer
Senior photography students are completing the BSSS unit Entrepreneurship in Photography. This unit involves investigating what it is like to become a professional photographer.
Right now, our focus is Commercial and Advertising photography as a career path and what that looks like. The first task is to complete images in three categories: architecture, environmental portraiture and also product photography. Students are required to produce images that can be used in both print and digital uses. We have completed these shoots on-site and the students have worked individually and collaboratively to produce some impressive results in this teacher-directed portfolio. Students will move on to their written task before working on producing a portfolio of imagery for a small business as their student-directed portfolio due at the end of the semester.
Museum of Australian Democracy
Last week our Year 10 photography class visited the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD) at Old Parliament House to work on their digital photographic image capture skills. We ventured inside for some time, looking at all of the details of the building including the Prime Ministers’ office and the House of Reps chambers before heading outside to capture the exterior of the building and the rose gardens.
Students were tasked with trying to obtain correct exposures using the manual mode on their cameras in both these two difficult lighting conditions. Students also worked on their composition skills using the rule of thirds and providing the viewer with a focal point of interest.
