From the Principal – 17 Feb 2023

February 16, 2023

Dear parents and friends

It is indeed a pleasure to write the editorial for this month’s edition of the College Newsletter.

Since its inception the Newsletter has been a publication that has celebrated the life of St Francis Xavier College. In the early days of the history of the College, it was typed in black and white, photocopied and then hand delivered to students or posted to families at their homes. How life has changed! In its current digital format, it expresses everything that is contemporary and vibrant about a 21st century school and is a celebration of the world in which the young people of St Francis Xavier learn and thrive. I commend it to you!

We welcomed 24 new staff to the College at the beginning of the year to teach in a number of faculty and leadership roles. I am very confident these colleagues will add significantly to what is an agile and confident teaching faculty and I wish them every success for the year ahead.

The academic year has begun with great gusto and our students have been engaged in their classes and very positive about the year ahead. We welcomed 214 Year 7 students from 30 feeder primary schools this year and they too have been very impressive in their efforts to settle into the routines of College life.

At our Opening Assembly last week, I welcomed all of our students and spoke to them about my aspirations for the College and for them as 21st century learners, how impressed I am with them and with their formation by their teachers and parents. They are certainly a credit to you!

I wrote to advise last week that Jaiken Bell who graduated in 2022 passed into eternal life. Jaiken was laid to rest last Friday and the service was attended by a number of our senior students and staff. Jaiken’s parents Meredith and Michael have asked me to express their gratitude to our parent community for the prayerful and practical support the family has received. Please continue to keep Jaiken and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope that you enjoy this edition of the College Newsletter and its reminder to us all of the vibrancy, colour, life and deep connections that bind this wonderful school community.

I look forward to meeting you as the year unfolds. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can assist you at principal@sfx.act.edu.au

With best wishes,

Sandra Darley
