Grandparents Day – Year 7

St. Anne and St. Joachim are the Grandparents’ of Jesus and therefore, the patron saints of grandparents all over the world. We celebrate their Feast Day on 26 July of each year. This year the SFX community welcomed Grandparents to the College to enjoy a morning hosted by the Year 7 students.

Our wonderful Grandparents’ and significant friends started the day in the Theatre, where they were welcome by our school captains, Charlie and Batseba, who reflected on enjoying the opportunity to bring their own Grandparents’ to the College when they were in Year 7.

Mr Carroll addressed the group where he took them on a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the ‘days in the old school yard’. He further went on to talk about the changes in education and what our mission is here at SFX for our students and their holistic development. Grandparents’ engaged in this conversation and were excited for their Grandchildren to show them why they are proud students of SFX.

The Year 7 students took their guests on a tour of the school which led them to their Humanities class. This was an opportunity for Grandparents’ to see where Year 7 spend the majority of their time in Year 7 & 8 in the Middle School. Students and Grandparents’ collectively participated in class activities such as Kahoots, restaurant reviews, taking selfies and maybe a game of Bananagrams.

As we know, learning is exhausting and it was time for a well earned cuppa. Students and Grandparents’ enjoyed morning tea in the staffroom. For their own safety, they left just in time, before the remainder of the College came out for recess. We had a successful day with approximately 200 guests.
