The ACT Training Excellence Awards 2014 recognise, reward and promote the achievements of apprentices, trainees, vocational students, trainers, employers, schools and registered training organisations committed to vocational education and training in the ACT.

Two students from St Francis Xavier College were finalists in each of their sections this year; Larissa Caston and Veronica Plunkett.  Larissa Caston was a finalist in the ACT Vocational School Student of the Year category and studies Certificate II in Live Production, Theatre and Events.  She is to be congratulated on reaching the finals.

Veronica Plunkett won the Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year Certificate II category.  Veronica is completing her apprenticeship in Sport and Recreation with the Australian Training Company and is working at McGregor Primary School.  Veronica has received glowing references from her supervisor who comments on her ‘ability to develop a positive and strong rapport with students and her willingness to be involved in all facets of school life, going ‘above and beyond ‘normal’ duties’.  Veronica has developed a passion for social work and assisting those less fortunate and she plans to continue her training in this field when she leaves College.   Congratulations Veronica!

Dear Parents and Guardians

I am writing to you regarding industrial action which is taking place in our schools this week.  You may be aware that the current Enterprise Agreement has expired and that a new Agreement needs to be developed.  Members of the Independent Education Union have voted to hold a stop work meeting to discuss this next Tuesday, 26 August, in the morning.

We will have reduced numbers of teaching and support staff at the College between 8am – 11am on Tuesday.  Normal classes will not run for periods 1 and 2 but will commence after recess.

Parents and carers may choose to keep their children at home until 11am.

As is always the case, our priority is to ensure that there is minimal inconvenience and disruption to parents and to the learning of our students.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Angus M Tulley
