Konnichiwa and Ciao from the Languages Department! As Acting Languages Coordinator for 2020, I, would like to issue this brief update from the Languages Department. Together with my colleagues Ms Natalie Bakonji (Japanese), Ms Annette Martin (Japanese) and Mr Olinto Fabbri (Italian), we have been busy mapping out what a COVID-19 affected Languages curriculum for 2020 will look like.
It goes without saying that this year has been a very unusual one to say the least. I am hoping that the remote learning process for your child’s engagement with learning either Japanese or Italian has been a relatively smooth one. We are certainly glad to have the students back in the classroom!
In 2020 we were due to host our sister-school visitors from Takefu in Japan and Il Bagatta from Italy. Unfortunately, these visits will be postponed until further notice. We were also due to start planning for our bi-annual overseas trips planned for 2021 but given the uncertainty around restrictions for international travel, we have decided to place a pause on planning and organisation until the travel situation becomes clearer. It is envisaged that a trip could perhaps take place in 2022 where the bulk of the organisation would take place over 2021.
In the meantime, we need to keep our spirits up and pray for other nations in the world that are still grappling with this terrible pandemic. Together we will defeat Coronavirus. Feel free to open and share the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd85ylSTtaM (Resistire/I will resist).
And finally, to all the SFX language students, keep studying your vocabulary and grammar!
Mrs Tina Rodriguez
