Principal’s blog – 28 June 2022
June 28, 2022Dear parents, students and staff
Thank you for your support over the last month as we scheduled Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 to each undertake one day a week of independent learning at home. The action was necessary given the staff shortages generally, in addition to the impact of sickness due to COVID-19 and influenza. The College has been able to cope with one year group off-site along with the employment of two or three relief teachers on a daily basis to top up the staffing requirements. Given Year 11 and 12 students had completed their semester program in the last two weeks of the term, we were able to manage all of Year 7 to 10 back at school.
The teachers used the allocated Pupil Free Day last Friday last to catch up on administrative tasks that have been postponed due to the extra workload they have undertaken during the semester when many staff were absent. The second allocated Pupil Free Day by the Director is the last day of term, 1 July 2022. Staff will be undertaking professional learning in addition to the planning for Term 3.
The College will have more of the roof replaced during the July school holidays. This is as a result of the hailstorm on 3 January this year. It will take a further 8 months to complete the project as they can only access the site when the students are not at school. Regular scheduled maintenance will be undertaken in addition to the installation of new carpet in D-Block during the break.
You will be aware that the Independent Education Union and the NSW Teachers Federation are undertaking joint action on 30 June 2022. The media release from the IEU is found here.
Congratulations to the 16 students of the Senior Leadership Team on their Winter Sleepout last Friday evening. They have currently raised in excess of $3,000 for their House Charities which is an amazing result in the current climate. Thank you to Mr Mullin and Mrs Nutt for supervising the group for their overnight event.
There will soon be an email to families outlining the plan for Term 3 given the ongoing effects of staff shortages.
Best wishes for the July school holidays and remember that school resumes on Tuesday 19 July.
Yours sincerely
Paul Carroll
