Year 8’s HUGE fundraising effort

March 31, 2023

SFX proudly supports a number of charities that support our local, national and global communities. Caritas is one of these great causes. SFX, along with thousands of other schools and parishes, raises funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world. Each morning throughout Lent every student is invited to give to Caritas through the Project Compassion Box in their Pastoral.

This year, the Year 8 SRC decided they wanted to do more. Each Year 8 House Group hosted a Bake Sale for one Recess during Week 9. Students have contributed by baking all sorts of sweet treats, setting up and running the stall.

Year 8 set their fundraising goal not as a number, but rather to have the biggest impact possible on the communities Caritas supports through Project Compassion. The funds raised by Year 8 were enough to:

  • Help train 12 farmers in Zimbabwe in sustainable farming
  • Donate 5 full kits to midwives in Bangladesh so they can safely deliver babies
  • Literacy classes for 5 adults in Tanzania
  • Seeds for 17 Nepalese farmers to increase their livelihoods
  • Stationery supplies to send 4 students to school in Zimbabwe

Overall, Year 8 have raised $1647 for Project Compassion. We are so incredibly proud of this sensational effort to make a positive impact in the communities supported by Caritas.
