Senior Students Shine
November 18, 2019Over the past few weeks, our Senior Music and Drama students have taken to the stage to showcase their hard work from Semester 2.
In Week 3, our Year 11 Drama students presented a fantastic array of scenes from various Modern Australian scripts including ‘Am I Your Dream’ by Camille Scaysbrook, ‘Silo’ by Charles Purcell, ‘Spencer’ by Katy Warner, and ‘The Removalists’ by David Williamson. Students were given the opportunity to adapt and perform the script in their own performance style. Their focus was presenting authentic Australian characters that highlighted an Australian social, cultural, historical or political perspective. The students should be congratulated on their hard work and fantastic performances!
Year 12 Drama took their audience on a moving and emotional journey, presenting a unique group-devised verbatim work titled ‘Threads of Youth: a love song in seven playlets’. This work explored the experience of growing up as they stand on the precipice of full-blown adulthood. It could have been called Wisdom of Youth as their reflections reveal the lessons that they and their Year 12 peers have learned from youth. Love songs are many things and this one is funny, painful, beautiful, scary and hopeful.
Finally, in Week 4, our Year 11 and 12 Music students wowed audiences with a lively and exciting concert featuring performances from a range of music genres including classical, rock, pop and more. The students had the audience clapping and bopping along all night!
A big congratulations to all students who were involved and a huge thank you to the Performing Arts Staff, Dene, Annie, Nicola, d’Arge and Gabby for all of their organisation, guidance and expertise. A huge thank you also to our student Production Crew for all their efforts behind the scenes.
