Careers & Pathways News
August 19, 2019It is the time of the year that students begin to ramp up their focus on career, pathway and transition planning. We continue to encourage students and parents to sign up the SFX Careers Newsfeed. Students who are in Year 11 and 12 and are unsure of how to get started with a transition plan, please email Mr Stewart to arrange a careers interview.
Career Xpo
To assist the students with their planning we took 63 interested Year 10, 11 and 12 students to the annual Careers Expo at EPIC. They had a wonderful time talking with Industry, CIT and
University representatives. Courses, apprenticeships, traineeships and pathways to work were discovered and discussed.
Emergency services and the Defence forces are always a drawcard with fire engines, ambulances and tanks etc that the students could interact with. Many engaged with hands on activities including beauty services, horticulture, electronics and construction.
Here are some quotes from students who attended:
“It gave me a lot of direction in terms of what career path I’m taking”
“I get to learn about different careers and understand what the right career path is for me.”
Anyone who might be eligible and interested in the Disability Provider Employment Expo, please visit the careers office as soon as possible.
Australian Schools Based Apprenticeships
On Tuesday this week parents and students who were interested in learning more about Apprenticeships and Traineeships which can be started while still at school came along to an information session. Tracy Harrison from Australian Training Company told us about the ASBA opportunities through their employment and Mr Stewart filled in the gaps regarding trade ASBAs and the new ASBA group that is being set up in the school. Anyone in year 10 or 11 who are interested in starting their employ and training while still at school should email Mr Stewart to arrange an appointment.
