SFX dancers shine on stage
September 21, 2022The Ausdance Youth Dance Festival is back and our Year 9-12 dancers shone on stage in their original dance pieces that were created in response to the festival’s 2022 theme—Transcience and Permanence.
The festival, held at The Canberra Theatre on Monday 5 September, showcased student-created dance pieces from secondary schools across the ACT. For many of our SFX dancers, this was their first experience performing in a professional venue of this caliber.
Our Year 9 and Year 10 dance classes worked together to create a moving piece titled ‘Home Is Not a House’. This piece explored the cultural stereotypes and anti-stereotypes of homelessness in a quest to understand our own fear of disconnection from society and our fear of connecting with those living rough in their hopes, dreams and desires.
The Senior Dance Class presented a work titled ‘A moment… a memory’ which looked at the permanent and fleeting nature of memories which are reflective of our experiences, feelings and relationships.
All dancers are to be congratulated on their wonderful contribution to the creation of these original works and their stunning performances on the day.
