Year 12 Retreat
August 31, 2022Year 12 Retreat held at Collaroy, NSW was jam packed with fun and emotional moments. The year group spent time appreciating the value of relationships.
We began with some team building activities. Jumping off 12-metre poles, climbing vertical walls and working together in an intense game of laser tag. It was a fantastic icebreaker for the remainder of the retreat.
That night we had Mr Robinson’s TRIVIA!!! All teams dressed up extravagantly. It was a tense battle and the teachers won again… But it was awesome! All groups had a lot of fun. Groups came dressed up as tennis players, fairies, characters from Clash Royale and Breaking Bad. It was a fantastic night.
In the morning, a small group of us walked down to the beach to enjoy a beautiful sunrise over the waves. Sipping on coffee and sharing a quiet morning was a peaceful way to begin our busy day. It set the tone for the emotional impact reflecting on our time at SFX.
Burn-bright, a company with a passion for young people spent the day with us, opening our eyes to the gift of friendship we have all around us. It was confronting to realise our time together as a year group was coming to close. We took some time learning a little more about some people we hadn’t talked to all that much. It was a very special time and a moment to treasure.
We shared some personal stories with the group, showing our gratitude and being open enough to share our mistakes. It was the most emotional experience on retreat. Many tears were cried, our year group has never felt closer, we all belonged together.
Later that evening, our year group opened the letters we wrote to ourselves from Years 7, 9 and 10. This was a very special moment. It showed the journey people had gone through and how far they had come during their time here at SFX. It was funny and reflective, remembering the Year 7 struggles and the experiences that awaited us.
That night we had a wild disco rave. Loud music and flashing lights brought the house down. There was karaoke and dancing to some year group classics.
On the last day, we shared a beautiful mass with Fr. Simon. There was music and a time to reflect inwards.
We were completely exhausted and very grateful. It was a special time to appreciate the people in our lives and to continue to create friendships. Retreat was incredible and is something we will remember forever.
